Alerts

Saved places and rules for earthquakes reported near them. Alerts are notifications of reported events, not warnings before shaking.

Add a place with a radius and minimum magnitude. In-app alerts can notify you while EQRadar is open.

How alerts work

  • While an EQRadar tab is open, newly reported earthquakes that meet a place's radius and minimum magnitude show a notice.
  • Nothing runs when the page is closed, and EQRadar does not send emails or push notifications.
  • Earthquakes already reported when the page opens are listed below, not announced.
Alerts describe earthquakes already reported by USGS — never predictions and never warnings ahead of shaking. Provider reporting can be delayed.

Tsunami and volcano notices

In-app only, while EQRadar is open · saved on this device

Checked about every minute. Tsunami areas are matched to your places only through official zone boundaries on the Tsunami Alerts page, never by distance. Follow tsunami.gov and local officials in an emergency.

Followed volcanoes

None yet. Use “Follow” on the Volcanoes page to be notified about new USGS notices.

Checked every five minutes. You are notified when USGS publishes a new notice for a followed volcano, not about notices that existed before.
